The Mathematics section splits into two areas: numbers and algebra, and measurement and data. Nothing here is beyond high school level, but the on-screen calculator is four-function only, so fraction and conversion work still has to happen on paper. That is why the setup matters more than the arithmetic. Here are eight questions in the real test's style - several of them shaped like the clinical calculations the TEAS favours. Try each one before opening the solution.
Question 1 - Dosage by proportion
- A. 2.5 mL
- B. 5 mL
- C. 10 mL
- D. 12.5 mL

Set up a proportion with matching units in matching positions: 125 mg / 5 mL = 250 mg / x mL.
Cross-multiply: 125x = 250 × 5 = 1,250. Divide both sides by 125: x = 10.
Sanity check: 250 mg is double 125 mg, so the volume should double from 5 mL to 10 mL.
Answer: C. 10 mL
Always write the units into the proportion. Half the errors on these come from flipping mg and mL, not from the arithmetic.
Question 2 - Percent decrease
- A. 9%
- B. 10%
- C. 11.1%
- D. 18%

Percent change is the change divided by the original value: (180 − 162) ÷ 180.
That is 18 ÷ 180 = 0.10, or 10%.
Answer: B. 10%
Choice C comes from dividing by 162, the new value. For a decrease, the denominator is always where you started.
Question 3 - Unit conversion
- A. 14.5 kg
- B. 30 kg
- C. 68.2 kg
- D. 145.2 kg

Decide the direction first. Kilograms are the bigger unit, so the number of kilograms must be smaller than 66 - that alone rules out C and D.
Divide: 66 ÷ 2.2 = 30 kg.
Answer: B. 30 kg
Before you calculate, ask whether the answer should be bigger or smaller. On a four-function calculator that habit catches multiply-versus-divide errors instantly.
Question 4 - Ratios
- A. 4
- B. 6
- C. 8
- D. 18

Write the ratio as a proportion: 2 nurses / 9 patients = n nurses / 36 patients.
Since 36 is 4 times 9, multiply the nurse side by 4 as well: n = 2 × 4 = 8.
Answer: C. 8
Keep the same category on top in both fractions. Nurses over patients on the left means nurses over patients on the right.
Question 5 - Fractions and order of operations
- A. 1/8
- B. 5/8
- C. 3/4
- D. 13/8

Division comes before subtraction. To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal: 3/4 ÷ 2/3 = 3/4 × 3/2 = 9/8.
Now subtract. Rewrite 1/2 with denominator 8: 1/2 = 4/8.
9/8 − 4/8 = 5/8.
Answer: B. 5/8
The TEAS calculator has no fraction key, so this is paper work. Reciprocal first, common denominator second, and never subtract before you divide.
Question 6 - Solving a linear equation
- A. x = 3
- B. x = 4.5
- C. x = 9
- D. x = 12

Distribute on the left: 4x − 12 = 2x + 6.
Subtract 2x from both sides: 2x − 12 = 6. Add 12: 2x = 18. Divide by 2: x = 9.
Check it: 4(9 − 3) = 24, and 2(9) + 6 = 24. Both sides match.
Answer: C. x = 9
Distribute across every term inside the parentheses. Forgetting to multiply the −3 by 4 produces choice B.
Question 7 - Working backward from an average
- A. 5
- B. 6
- C. 7
- D. 8

An average of 6 across 5 shifts means the total is 6 × 5 = 30 admissions.
The first four shifts total 4 + 7 + 5 + 8 = 24.
The fifth shift is 30 − 24 = 6.
Answer: B. 6
Turn the average back into a total first. Almost every missing-value average question collapses to one subtraction once you do.
Question 8 - Flow rate
- A. 80 mL/hr
- B. 125 mL/hr
- C. 133 mL/hr
- D. 150 mL/hr

Rate is amount divided by time, and the units in the question tell you the setup: mL per hour means mL ÷ hours.
1,000 ÷ 8 = 125 mL/hr.
Answer: B. 125 mL/hr
Let the requested units build the equation. 'Per' means divide, and whatever comes after 'per' goes on the bottom.
Bringing it together
Look back at what actually did the work here: a proportion with the units written in, dividing by the original value, checking whether the answer should be bigger or smaller, and turning an average into a total. The arithmetic was never hard. With 57 minutes for 38 questions you have about 90 seconds each, which is plenty - as long as the setup is automatic and you are not rediscovering it under time pressure.
